Styling our Fireplace and Mantle for this Christmas Season

Every year I look forward to the holidays! I enjoy the festivities, nostalgia and excitement that comes with the season. I also love creating a cozy and inviting space for my family to enjoy and create those special memories in. Almost every season the first area i start decorating in is our kitchen. Back when we first bought our home, I was not keen on the idea of the fireplace being located in our kitchen. However, we have worked so hard to make our kitchen a wonderful space to enjoy gathering and now our fireplace is front and center, and the first thing you notice when you come in!

Every year is different. Last year, I decorated with lighted houses and lots of bottlebrush trees. This year, I wanted to take a more woodland Christmas feel. I wanted a garland that was lush and offered lots of texture. That sent me on a search to look for something that was definitely not traditional, and ultimately, I landed upon a garland called Sawgrass Bush garland. Popular amongst spring and summer decor, but the varying textures and green colors were perfect for the depth and dimension I was looking for. You can see the garland here:

To achieve the look I was after, I took two strands of the garland and twisted them together. This gave the dimensional, full look I wanted. I used floral wire to hold the two pieces together. Ultimately, it took 4 garlands to cover our mantle. I have had a few ask how I attached it to our mantle, and while it may cause a few of you to gasp…I use trim nails to hold garlands in place on our mantle. I have never had luck with the command strips or hooks on our particular mantle. Now I love those items for securing lots of other decor items, just not on this!

Once I had the garland up, it was easy decorating from there! I simply hot glued berries throughout the garland and I also added in sprigs of faux cedar to add even more variation & depth to the greens. From there I added in the bows. I went back and forth between reds and golds, but ultimately decided on a gold satin ribbon. Once the garland was finished up, I focused on setting the scene behind it. I collect and love old books, and gathered several red and green books to display. The brown jug is thrifted, I have several of these and I love to use them year-round, filling them with greens or florals. The deer were also thrifted, they actually started out white, but I knew that I wanted to tone them down. I spray painted them with Burnished Amber, Rust-Oleum Universal Forged Hammered Spray Paint. I just love how they turned out!

The Christmas trees are resin and I found them at Hobby Lobby a couple years ago. You can also find them here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/craftedmatters/photo/amzn1.shoppablemedia.v1.81d9e518-0ba4-4b54-ae0a-22ea1a7adaa9?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfphoto_WCQBKB03327M5GWPFSMB_1

Lastly, the Santa Claus sign! I knew the moment I saw this sign it would be a perfect compliment for our fireplace this season! The sign is a good size – 39.5″ x 39.5″, made from tin and distressed perfectly! The colors lend a cozy, nostalgic feel to the space. You can see this sign here: https://a.co/d/45kB5Ar

I just love how pretty our fireplace and mantle turned out this season! Creating our own cozy is something that I have loved doing and being able to enjoy our home with my family and friends. Even though this was a larger project, know that even the smallest touches can bring the biggest impact to a space. I hope you feel inspired to do something creative today!! Thanks for stopping by xoxo –
