How to create your own DIY water-free Snow Globe!

Transform ordinary ornament into enchanting snow globes and you’ll have a whimsical winter wonderland to display on your shelves or mantelpiece. This snow globe ornament DIY is so simple to make, which also makes these a great activity to do with kids, as well! To make these adorable snow globe ornaments, you’ll need:

  • blank snow globe ornament – I found mine at Dollar Tree in the Christmas section.
  • cotton balls
  • mini trees, lampposts, presents, berries, ect
  • glitter snow
  • twine
  • hot glue gun
  • side cuts & scissors

Creating your own water-free snow globe ornament starts with the first steps of crafting a snowy base inside the ornament. Remove the lid and grab a couple cotton balls and separate them a little. I love that creating the snowy base is as simple as grabbing a few cotton balls! Begin by applying a small amount of glue to the bottom of the ornament, then separate a cotton ball and fluff it up before sticking it to the glue.

Gently maneuver the cotton ball around the bottom of the ornament to create designated spots for your miniature trees. To secure the tree & lamppost seen here in place, use a drop of hot glue on the base of each item and press it into the designated spot. Be careful to glue your trees and other decor items of choice, to the ornament lid and not the cotton ball, as this will ensure it stands upright inside the snow globe. If needed, to make your tree a bit shorter, you can clip off the base and attach it that way. My trees were just a little taller than I desired, so I shortened them!!

Now that you’ve created a charming winter wonderland scene inside your snow globe ornament, it’s time to add the snow!

Just sprinkle a bit of glitter snow inside the globe and at the base of your ornament and carefully screw the lid in place.

I adore how the snow gently rests on the fluffy cotton ball snow blanket, creating the illusion of freshly fallen snow in a winter wonderland. To make it snow inside the snow globe, simply give it a shake!

I chose to replace the plain silver string on the top of the snow globe, which is used for hanging the ornament, with a piece of twine. This simple change adds a touch of rustic charm to your ornament as well!

I hope you enjoyed this short tutorial! Happy crafting friends!
